Digital Lifestyle Footprints from Tokyo Girls Collection Fall 09

This season's TGC took place in early September has attracted a lot attention because the renowned HK top girl models like Angelababy and Chrissie have captured a lot spotlights from HK mass media. That's why i'd like to write up something about this event.

What i'm interested in this show is that many retailers were taking advantages for this trend-setting fashion event by blending girl fashion with a new metro lifestyle - healthy food and beauty. What captured my most attention is, there showed the concept of blending grocery retail with fashion event. And it seems blending well, in Japan.

Lawson, the C-store retailer, has put QR codes onto its prepacked beverage items with which the TGC fans can buy the drink, scan QR, go online and instantly check the girl's party event with their smartphones and more. What a wonderful digital life where you walk and drink, watch the event on spot, check the event online and more at a time, with a stylish smartphone. Cool!

Mobile commerce was everywhere at TGC where fans did the shopping on spot with their mobile phones. Having the similar concept of video game shows, fans can also play the game for online catwalk with their uploaded fashion icons. By doing this, they just simply scan a QR code with their own mobile phones.

QR is just the fun and fashion in Japan.... Games + Commerce + Events. Everything done @ smartphone.

So stylish it is, the innovative retail technology from Japan!!!

Innovative retail technologies in Asia most often originate from Japan, like QR Code by Denso-Wave. Recently, I’ve come up with an interesting YouTube link which demonstrates some interesting future store technologies in Japan applicable to stylish trendy boutiques. This may be the kind of “wow” factor the shoppers may look for in a high fashion boutique! These new store technologies are developed by Uchida Yoko (内田洋行) and Toshiba-TEC (东芝泰格).

Future store technologies addressed here include:

  • RFID-taged items on display

  • Intelligent shelves - with on-shelf LCD display of pick-up product information/recommended dishes/comments, 1-to-1 pick-up product comparison with discerning differences, top ranking of item pick-ups, conversion analysis

  • "Stylish” POS – embedded with RFID item scan, RFID e-payment card scan, transaction data display and purchased products’ related information display

  • POS Receipt printed with QR Code about product specific information and corporate website encoded for later access by shopper's smartphone

The lady demonstrator presents in a very professional manner too. Enjoy the show!!!
